30 September 2019 – DAY 27 (Compostilla)
I’m now in Ponferrada after a really difficult decent from the mountain. It was lovely to see the sunrise in the backdrop of the Cruz de Ferro. The mountains are beautiful, but the 21km decent was very rocky and you had to be very mindful where you put each step. My Fitbit shows that I’ve waked 29km today. I think it was less 2 in reality, as I have small steps. I’ve lost Larry in Molineseca and walked to this town with Tony (artist from Canada) and Give from Denmark. Had dinner with Marco from Italy, Johnny from Copenhagen and Guy from Canada. Guy drove us all crazy with his history facts. Ponferrada is pretty with a castle that is a well-preserved example of a Templers Castle. My Achilles tendon started playing up, but there was a nice medic who has treated it for me. I’m really tired after two really rough days. I’ll have to redo my birthday once I’m back home….
