22 September 2019 – DAY 18 (Lagartos)

I got up really early and it is lovely walking alone in the dark with the moon to guide you and listening to the owl and other small animals running for shelter. Got lost twice today, but it was fortunately not a train smash. It was actually a lovely walk early, but later along the main road. All and all a good walk today with Pink Floyd setting the pace. I was so tired yesterday and the day before but feel much better today. I’ve managed to walk 33km!!! Now at the Albergue rolling my tired feet over a tennis ball. Will have a shower and then hunt for some food. The Albergue is run by nuns, and they only speak Spanish expecting you to follow ☺ Very neat and tidy here with normal beds instead of bunk beds. How it works…. they take your passport and write your number down, then they stamp your pilgrim’s passport and give you a paper sheet to put on the bed and pillow. Very hygienic to avoid bedbugs. I’ll have to find food for tomorrow too, as there are no villages for the first 17km or more. Lots of Koreans here. Did I mention that I’ve met a Korean Monk days ago? Anyway… Raoul from Madrid told me that young Koreans get credits for university if they do the Camino. They also get preference when applying for a job. Interesting….I can understand that though. My feet are now truly knackered. My calve muscles too…. will have to do a lot of stretching. Aarrrgghhh!!! I never believed in Compete, but it seemed to be working great because it’s like a second skin…. HOWEVER, the two blisters on my little toes started to get nasty underneath and I had to take it off. It is flippen disgusting 😢 And I’m going to loose a toenail! 🙈 And here I thought I had a good day 😂
