25 September 2019 – DAY 21 (Leon)
After another early start I walked 25km. For the first time had to use my torch to light the way, as it was a sickle moon and cloudy. So, I always wondered about the many dead mice you see on the footpaths… This morning early, I have experienced the reason. There are many mice hiding in the grasses next to the footpath. As soon as they hear you approach, they run across the path to safety. There really are many and I nearly stepped on one too. I’m in a town called Puente Villarente. It’s only 12km from Leon, but after the distance today my feet said ‘nope’! Had my shower and quickly went to the supermarket to try and buy fresh fruit or something healthy. However, … siesta!!! So now I’m sitting eating chips and having a Peregrina beer. Quite nice. Chips remind me of Niknaks. THESE FLIPPEN FLIES DRIVE ME FLIPPEN INSANE!!!!!!!!!!! Drank wine with two amazing ladies – Jan end Anji. They are from Wiltshire, and both were nurses in the RAF during the first Gulf War. I ordered a pilgrim’s meal where you get free wine. I gave the wine one sniff and asked for a Rioja instead. The waiter thought it was really funny but agrees that it smelled like vinegar 😂 I know…. I am a wine snob.
