6 September 2019 – DAY 2. (Roncesvalles / Cizur Menor)
Walking from Roncesvalles to Zubiri. Larry and I left at 6am. We had to use a torch to see where we are going. After 3 hours of walking, we stopped at a place with other pilgrims for something to drink. Larry discovered here that he had left his passport and money and the previous Alberque and had to go back to fetch it. I was walking on my own and met amazing people on the way. Zubiri was full and I could not find any accommodation. This was due to one Albergue that was shut due to bedbug infestation. I walked further to Larrasoana – there was also no accommodation available, due to a festival in the village. I walked further to Zacharain – full! Walked further to Zalbidika….full!!! I think I know now how Joseph and Mary must have felt when Jesus was born ☺ Helen van NZ and Julia from Germany had to get a taxi to Cizur Menor. At this stage I have already walked 38km in 12 hours. I met up again with Doug and Jordan at the Albergue. We went for a meal that evening where I got served raw chicken…., but with a free bottle of wine!!!
