5 September 2019 – DAY 1 (Saint-Jean-Pied -de -Port to Roncesvalles)
First day of walking. What a walk it was!!! It was really heavy going and everybody took a break at Orison. I had a coke and Larry asked to join me on the walk. It was really steep and when we were right at the top it was freaking freezing!!! There was a man with a van selling food and hot chocolate. Walking further you could hear Bob singing. It was a very steep descent into Roncesvalles. We arrived at Roncesvalles – we stayed in a massive monastery. I shared a room with 14 other men and women mixed. The bathroom is also mixed, and it is really ‘open’. Yuck….had to shower in standing water and the water was cold. Went to the pub and met up with Doug, Jordan, Larry and meeting Adam (Bob’s ‘brutha’), Andrew from Montreal, Alec from Boston and Victor from Denmark. The snoring that night!! 😜
Walking across the Pyrenees Mountains was an amazing experience.
